5x5

Fall Ball

I am learning that painting on a small surface is more complicated than I first smirked at (shame on me)!  Throw in trying to ONLY use a palate knife and new subjects sounds like a trip to the beach, yeah right.

One issue is how to paint comfortably this tiny square?  I end up holding it in my hands most of the time, I haven't quite found a good angle to get at it when it's on my easel.   Oh and my choice of the very detailed subjects - maybe I should leave those to larger surfaces or embrace my new "art wrinkles" that are sure to be forming.

I am stretching myself and that is my goal.  The feedback I am receiving from friends old & new from Facebook and elsewhere really makes my heart smile.  Art is my joy.

Off to find some colors!

Painting "Yoga"

This painting challenge is really pushing me, stretching me and making me ache at times!  Yes, I am a few paintings off schedule but it is totally worth it to have spent a few days with my brother in town.  My goal has been to just paint as much as I can in the 30 days (or so), I realize some days I will just not get anything "art" finished but I am thinking "art" everyday.  A few of the great things about this experience is that I am really trying to stick to solely using palette knives, letting each painting be "finished" whether or not I am really ready to let go and allowing a photo to help me really see what I cannot, (that part is crazy but it really gives a different view).

Keep it colorful!

Sunday evening . . .

Ahhh Sunday evening . . .   (que the "Jaws" theme, Monday is coming)

Life never slows down!  I'm trying to keep up, as usual....

I've posted my painting on Leslie's blog, figured out what kind of exercise I'm in for Monday, and have at least Monday's painting ready to go!  Now if all goes well I will be a sweaty, painted spotted mess by Sunset tomorrow....

Sounds rough, I know.  Seriously, there is all the blah, blah of daily life, kids, errands, email (yuck), phone calls to make, carpool . . . it fills a day up fast.

Keep it colorful and do something fun on Monday!

30 Paintings in 30 Days! Yes - I am crazy . . .

For the next 28 days or for a good bit of September I am participating in a 30 paintings in 30 days challenge by Leslie Saeta.  Why?  I know right? It's kind of like signing up for a race, I just can't make myself put in the miles if I am not accountable so this is my "painting" race of sorts.

These first few paintings are reminding me of those first few runs, where I thought I might stop before I got out of the Y parking lot or flag down a luxury vehicle cruising down McDaniel to save me.  But as my thumps gave to a nice light rhythm and my breath allowed me to chat, I realized that running like most everything in life is all about what you give it.  Practice makes perfect or at least much better.  So this is my painting practice race, so far I have not heard about any t-shirts or medals but maybe we should look into it - I know I will certainly earn it with a smile on my face and a long soak when it's complete Sept 30th.

So far I have completed 2, I realize I may not post everyday and life may throw a curve here and there but I am committed to this challenge and myself to paint as much as I can (and not the easy stuff), come October I will be on the better side for it.

So find a little color in your sky, it's good for you!

So here are my first 2 paintings . . .

"Morning Notes"
"Animal Menagerie"

Work of caution!  Don't accidentally drink your dirty palette knife water, it's nasty, that's when I knew it was time to STOP!

Abientot!

It's painting time!

Enough of stalling, it is time to paint again!  My goal is to try this "30 Paintings in 30 Days" with Leslie Saeta, it is going to be a challenge in self discipline there is no question.  I can do it and I will be better for it at the completion on September 30th!

I am getting myself ready and  hope to share as I let my colors find their way from my heart to my canvas.

It is going to be an adventure, a messy, colorful, spirited adventure!
